AMTA's purpose is the progressive development of the therapeutic use of music in rehabilitation, special education, and community settings. Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.

APT promotes the value of play, play therapy, and credentialed play therapists by advancing the psychosocial development and mental health of all people.

CAPS encourages in-depth consideration of therapeutic, research, theoretical, and theological issues. The association is a forum for creative new ideas. In fact, our publications and conferences are the birthplace for many of the formative concepts in our field today.
