Freshmen enrolled in the Freshmen Seminar course receive basic instruction in using the library and available resources. In addition to this, we offer a Library Instruction Program tailored to course curricula and class assignments. Instruction classes are designed to teach information literacy skills and introduce students to effective use of print and electronic sources for research. We focus on:
- How to Research a Topic - including how to identify a topic, choose appropriate resources and develop a search strategy.
- Locating and Retrieving Materials - including using the library catalog, GALILEO databases and Inter-Library Loan (ILL).
- Evaluating Sources - including identifying scholarly materials and locating authoritative information on the Internet.
I would be happy to design a session tailored to your class assignments or work with you to develop assignments that incorporate information literacy skills and library resources. See below to contact me or to schedule an instruction time.
