Checking Out Materials

All patrons must present a current Emmanuel University identification card to check out materials. Current students, faculty, and staff access their ID card through the EU app. Community borrowers will be issued a card at the library Circulation Desk upon registration and payment of a $10.00 fee.

Library patrons may check out materials only on their own ID and may not check out materials for someone else.

Students may check check out a maximum for 15 books for 45 days with NO renewal. DVDs and CDs can be checked out for 3 days. All items MUST be turned in by the last day of classes to avoid fines.

Community patrons may check books out for 14 days. You may renew items once and are limited to a maximum of 10 books. DVDs and CDs are not available for community check out.

Restricted materials: Reference materials, periodicals, and Reserve Materials are library use only.

Recalls:  The Library may recall immediately any material needed for reserve use. Recalled items should be returned in two business days or by the date specified in the recall notice. Your cooperation is appreciated in the prompt return of materials which have been recalled.  Recall notices will be sent by email.

Fines and Lost Book Charges

Fines for overdue materials are $0.25 per day/per item. A maximum fine is set per item (usually $15) and does not exceed the total cost of the item. Additional materials may not be checked out until fines are settled. Students who have outstanding library materials will have their account locked until the items are returned and any associated fines are paid.

Items that are not returned or renewed will be assumed to be lost and the borrower will be billed for their replacement. For lost materials borrowers are charged for the replacement cost of the item ($50.00 per item, on average) plus a processing fee ($15.00). The bill for a lost item may be adjusted if the actual cost of replacement can be determined.

The borrower is responsible for materials returned in a damaged condition. Charges for damaged materials may include either repair or replacement costs.
